Faculty Development Manager - Permanent

Position based in Glion

We are now seeking a Faculty Development Manager.


The Faculty Development Manager is responsible for setting the direction and building a culture of continuous professional development for the faculty. Much of this will be based on understanding the learning needs and preferences of Glion students, and best practice in teaching philosophy and methodologies. The positon holder will work closely with the deans, faculty, and faculty development team to ensure a dynamic and sustainable approach to strengthening the faculty body.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a vision and direction for lifelong learning and continuous professional development of the faculty
  • Build a culture of scholarship and teaching excellence, scholarship based on a student-centred orientation
  • Develop developmental policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with internal and external requirements
  • Identify and disseminate student learning needs and preferences
  • Identify areas for development within faculty
  • Analyse, monitor and report on progress of the faculty development department
  • Develop and communicate a plan and calendar of training events
  • Oversee the development of training materials by the faculty development team
  • Create and manage an in-house online site for faculty development
  • Build and maintain a system of recognition and rewards to celebrate faculty success
  • Participate in faculty recruitment and orientation
  • Provide personal support to faculty
  • Build a system of faculty mentoring
  • Promote faculty engagement and collaboration
  • Support student learning through establishing and participating in a peer observation process
  • Monitor and communicate trends in pedagogy, instructional design and educational delivery methods
  • Invite and coordinate external developmental expertise
  • Promote and support research, conference attendance, and publishing for the faculty development team and the faculty
  • Manage resources and budgets effectively
  • Coordinate with other institutional partners to support student learning

Desired Skills and Experience


Education and Professional qualifications:

  • Minimum Master’s degree and a degree and/or training – certificate in education and pedagogy
  • Proven track record of successful faculty development initiatives/workshops

Experience:

  • At least 6 years of experience in an academic setting with a previous faculty development role
  • Teaching experience mandatory (previous or during FD assignment)

Knowledge and skills:

  • Proficiency in English mandatory (working language)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, high level of emotional intelligence
  • Empathy and a strong ability to provide feedbacks, encourage, further develop, motivate and retain
  • Familiar with course performance evaluation tools, faculty performance evaluation tools, and overall faculty portfolio concept
  • Very familiar and acquainted with technologies, digital education, learning platforms, blended concepts, and latest pedagogic developments
